On Wednesday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), announced that his political party is prepared to form a coalition government with the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N).
Speaking to journalists, Maulana Fazlur Rehman clarified that the JUI-F has not engaged in discussions with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) regarding seat adjustments and electoral alliances.
Expressing concern, he highlighted that ordinary citizens and law enforcement personnel are losing their lives daily in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, and South Waziristan. He mentioned that the death toll from the Bajaur incident has reached 80.
Despite the deteriorating law and order situation, Fazlur Rehman stated that the JUI-F continues to demand the timely organization of fair and free general elections.
Commenting on objections raised by Asif Ali Zardari regarding flaws in vote registration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Fazlur Rehman called for an investigation into the alleged registration of Afghan citizens as voters. He admitted that he was unaware of such flaws in the voter lists until Zardari brought them to light.
The JUI-F supremo emphasized the need for a thorough probe into Afghan voters, even if it leads to a delay in the general elections.
In the previous month, the PML-N and JUI-F had reached an agreement on seat adjustments in Punjab for the upcoming general elections. A meeting between the consultative committees of the two parties resulted in an agreement, with further discussions planned after finalizing the list of election candidates.
