PPP leader Waqar Mahdi has criticized the MQM-P, stating that they should stop dreaming of holding Karachi ‘hostage’ and called for the Muttahida leadership to apologize for their past ‘crimes.’
Waqar Mahdi suggested that fearing defeat, MQM-P boycotted municipal elections and might consider opting out of future elections to avoid a potential loss.
He pointed out that despite being a partner in different governments for 40 years, MQM-P has not effectively ‘served’ the people. The relationship between the two parties has soured, especially after MQM-P boycotted municipal elections, and is now perceived as a political rival to PPP, previously allies in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
As the political temperature rose with the announcement of general elections on February 8 by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto openly criticized PMLN supremo Nawaz Sharif in public gatherings and press conferences. Bilawal advised Nawaz Sharif to trust his party and refrain from seeking help from other institutions to create ‘political space’ for PMLN in the upcoming elections.
During a press conference in Mithi, Bilawal Bhutto urged Nawaz Sharif to focus on Lahore and Punjab, the political stronghold of PMLN, while PPP continues to engage with people and highlight pro-people policies.
Bilawal also questioned the performance of PMLN ministers during their 16-month tenure in the PDM government. The political dynamics in Pakistan seem to be intensifying as the parties position themselves for the upcoming elections.
COAS General Asim Munir Emphasizes Armed Forces’ Focus on Defending Motherland’s Frontiers
In another development, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir emphasized the armed forces’ commitment to defending Pakistan’s frontiers against any threats during a visit to Khairpur Tamewali.
The visit included witnessing a field exercise conducted by the Bahawalpur Corps. General Munir addressed the troops, stating that the Pakistan armed forces, with the support of the nation, are focused on defending the motherland against a full spectrum of threats.
The COAS was briefed on the field exercise, which aimed to enhance professional skills and battlefield procedures at various levels to meet future challenges in an operational environment.
The exercise involved integrated fire and battle maneuvers of various elements, including armor, mechanized infantry, artillery, air defense, and anti-tank guided missiles, with support from the Pakistan Air Force and combat aviation.
General Munir appreciated the training standards, operational preparedness, and morale of officers and troops. He directed the troops to continue serving the nation with traditional zeal and passion.
