On Wednesday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez as the team director following the World Cup disappointment in India.
In a statement on X, the PCB announced changes to the portfolio of the Pakistan coaching staff. The statement noted, “All coaches will continue to work in the National Cricket Academy, while the PCB will announce the new coaching staff for the upcoming series in Australia and New Zealand in due course.”
The 43-year-old Mohammad Hafeez, who recently became a member of the technical committee, represented Pakistan in 55 Tests, 218 ODIs, and 119 T20s. Notably, he was part of the team that clinched the Champions Trophy.
In addition to Hafeez’s appointment, earlier in the day, PCB named Shaheen Shah Afridi as the captain of the T20I side. Meanwhile, Shan Masood, showcasing excellent form, particularly in Test cricket, was designated as the captain for the red-ball format.

The PCB shared this information on X (formerly Twitter), presenting Masood, a left-handed batter, as the Test captain and Afridi, a left-arm pacer, as the T20I captain.
Shan Masood, a 30-year-old left-handed batsman, has been appointed captain for Tests until the end of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25. Masood’s first captaincy assignment is the three-match Test series against Australia in Australia starting from December 14.
