Iran’s Human Rights Chief, Mohammad Eslami, has penned a letter to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, urging the UN nuclear watchdog to inform the United Nations Security Council about the potential threat of nuclear weapons being used by the Israeli regime against the Palestinian population in Gaza.

This request follows recent remarks by Israel’s Heritage Minister Amichai Eliyahu, who suggested the option of atomic weapons as a means to target Gaza, referring to all residents of the Gaza Strip as militants.
Eslami highlighted in his letter that Israel, in contrast to many nations, has not ratified treaties prohibiting weapons of mass destruction, particularly the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). Furthermore, he accused the Israeli regime of obstructing efforts to establish a nuclear weapons-free zone in the Middle East. Revital Gotliv, a member of the Likud political party in the Knesset, also advocated for the use of a “doomsday” weapon against Palestinians in Gaza.
Russia has expressed concern over the escalating nuclear threats from Israeli officials regarding the conflict in Gaza. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova deemed these statements as “provocative and unacceptable.”
She emphasized that the provocative nature of these remarks indicates not only the existence of nuclear weapons in Israel but also a willingness to contemplate their use in inappropriate scenarios.
Zakharova’s comments underscore the historical ambiguity surrounding Israel’s possession of nuclear weapons and how recent statements contribute to confirming their presence in the country’s arsenal.
