G7 Appeals
TEHRAN: Iran forcefully rejected the G7’s recent call to cease its support for Hamas and actions deemed destabilizing in the Middle East. Following the G7 foreign ministers’ meeting in Tokyo, where they expressed backing for “humanitarian pauses and corridors” in the Israeli-Hamas conflict, Iran dismissed the statement, emphasizing its commitment to ongoing efforts to halt Israeli military attacks on Gaza.
Nasser Kanani, the spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, strongly condemned the G7’s stance. He criticized the group, consisting of influential nations like the U.S., UK, Germany, Canada, Italy, France, and Japan, for not fulfilling what Iran perceives as their international responsibility—to condemn Israel’s actions that violate human rights and international law in Gaza.
While Iran supports Hamas, it insists on its non-involvement in the militant group’s attack on Israel, considering it a success. President Ebrahim Raisi asserted that Iran sees it as its duty to support resistance groups while emphasizing their independent actions.
The conflict, triggered by Hamas gunmen crossing the heavily militarized border on October 7, has led to devastating consequences in Gaza. Israeli air strikes have resulted in significant casualties, with over 10,500 people killed, including a substantial number of women and children, according to the health ministry.
Iran, consistently not recognizing Israel, has made supporting the Palestinian cause a cornerstone of its foreign policy since the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Overall, Iran rejects G7 appeals to cease support for Hamas militants, dismissing calls to halt actions deemed to “destabilize” the Middle East.
