Election Date
The PTI welcomed the announcement of the election date and praised the Supreme Court for intervening to ensure a date was set. After its Core Committee meeting on Friday, the party stated that the Supreme Court’s intervention, role, and decision would help alleviate the country’s uncertainty.
However, PTI pointed out the Election Commission’s challenge in conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, emphasizing that the political party representing the majority of the people had faced severe state repression and fascism for the last 18 months. The party expressed concern about state terrorism, citing a raid on the house of PTI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa leader Ali Amin Gandapur’s sister soon after the election date announcement.
PTI stressed the importance of its participation in the election process without fear or hindrance to ensure free, fair, and transparent elections. The party also called for equal opportunities for all political parties interested in participating in the elections.
Furthermore, the former ruling party urged the ECP to promptly address pending issues, including the provision of the election symbol “Bat” to the PTI, and ensure a level playing field for the general polls. PTI called for a review of administrative structures established by previous governments to ensure transparency in the elections.
The party demanded an end to oppression and fascism against PTI, the immediate release of leaders and imprisoned workers, including Chairman Imran Khan, and the cessation of revenge and brutality.
PTI noted its mobilization of organizational structures and workers at all levels in preparation for the elections. The party also reiterated its decision to boycott four anchors for their support of state machinery in unconstitutional and illegal actions and deviation from journalistic values, ethics, and professional integrity.
