Contest Elections
Veteran politician Sheikh Rasheed, undeterred by the prospect of imprisonment, affirmed his intention to contest the next election against the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
Speaking to reporters after the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench ordered the de-sealing of Lal Haveli, Rasheed declared his candidacy for both seats in the city, a tradition he has maintained.
Despite being arrested four times in the October 5 case, Rasheed challenged the authorities to call him directly if they intended to apprehend him instead of picking up his employees. He also expressed his unwavering loyalty to his ‘friends’ until the end.
Rasheed reiterated his condemnation of the May 9 incidents, attributing them to ‘dirty’ individuals. He also praised Army Chief General Asim Munir, hailing him as a source of pride for Rawalpindi, and affirmed his solidarity with the army.
The Lal Haveli, a property with a contentious status, was ordered to be de-sealed by the LHC’s Rawalpindi bench, with the Waqf Board assigned to oversee the property’s case. Rasheed highlighted the discrepancy between the treatment of evacuee properties in India and Pakistan, emphasizing that the matter persists in Pakistan.
Earlier, the LHC had rejected petitions seeking the de-sealing of Lal Haveli, insisting that its status remain unchanged until the board resolved the issue.
Sheikh Rasheed, who had been missing for over a month, recently resurfaced in a TV interview, explaining that he had been engaged in solitary prayers for 40 days.
Sheikh Rasheed’s resolute stance in the face of potential incarceration underscores his commitment to participate in the upcoming elections and take on the Pakistan Democratic Movement, even if it means contesting from within jail.
His unwavering determination and loyalty to his ‘friends’ reflect his unwavering dedication to his political journey. Overall, he vows to contest elections against Pakistan Democratic Movement, even if jailed.
