Punjab Records Over 10,000 Pink Eye Infection Cases in 24 Hours

Pink Eye Infection

The pink eye infection has rapidly spread throughout Punjab, with private hospitals in the province reporting more than 10,269 cases in the last 24 hours.

The total number of people affected by this year’s pink eye infection, also known as conjunctivitis, in Punjab has reached 394,000, according to official statistics. Lahore’s hospitals reported 452 cases of pink eye in the last 24 hours.

In Bahawalpur, 1,540 individuals visited hospital OPDs with the infection, while there were 1,048 cases in Multan, 1,132 in Faisalabad, and 175 in Rawalpindi.

The provincial health department revealed that the number of people seeking treatment for pink eye at private hospitals and clinics is twice the reported data.

The primary healthcare minister recommended that people contact the department’s helpline for pink eye infection treatment, where eye specialists from across the province are available 24/7.

Dr. Jamal Nasir stated that there is an ample supply of eye infection medicines to hospitals across Punjab. He mentioned that pink eye typically lasts for seven to ten days.

Health experts have advised those affected by the disease to self-isolate to prevent further spread. Eye specialists recommend granting infected individuals leave from work and business to curb the virus’s transmission.

This break included the Eid Milad un Nabi holiday and the Saturday and Sunday weekend, providing an extended break for students.

Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday. This decision comes after reports of a rising number of conjunctivitis cases, with Bahawalpur citizens in Punjab being the most affected.
