New Political Party
ISLAMABAD: Two stalwart PML-N leaders Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail are getting ready to launch their own new political party. PPP leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar is also joining them to launch a new party.
They will soon announce the name of their party ahead of the arrival of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif. Elder Sharif is returning from London on Oct 21.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi served as Prime Minister of Pakistan when the Supreme Court disqualified Nawaz Sharif in the notorious Panama case. The SC’s decision led to the removal of Nawaz as PM.
Meanwhile, Miftah Ismail has been part of the Shehbaz Sharif cabinet as Finance Minister hardly for five months. However, Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar did not tolerate it and they removed him as the PDM’s finance minister.
This was the beginning of a rift between Miftah Ismail, Nawaz Sharif, and Ishaq Dar. When Dar replaced Miftah, the latter boldly lambasted Dar’s economic policies which badly undermined the economy and the value of the rupee.
He also strongly criticized the go-slow strategy of Ishaq Dar which delayed the revival of the IMF program for almost a year. It derailed the value of the rupee and caused a serious blow to the national economy.
Meanwhile, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Miftah Ismail have strongly opposed the harshest IMF program that has wiped out the public support for the party and made life miserable for the masses.
Notably, Miftah Ismail has targeted Nawaz Sharif and Ishaq Dar in his bold criticism while Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was annoyed with the Shehbaz Sharif-led regime. Abbasi did not hesitate to say that the governance of the Shehbaz-led PDM government was the worst in the history of Pakistan.
Interestingly, on Tuesday, Miftah Ismail shared a Tweet of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, seeking people’s opinion about the launching of a new political party.
After getting an encouraging response, they announced the launching of their party soon as general elections are approaching in the last week of January 2024.
Meanwhile, in an interview to a leading English newspaper, Abbasi said that there was both a need and space for a new political party in the current scenario. While criticizing the PDM government, former Premier said the past rulers (belonging to the PDM) should have stepped down when they realized that former army chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa was creating hurdles for them.
He, nonetheless, said the PDM’s regime had eight to nine months after the retirement of Gen. Bajwa, but the government could not deliver.
Abbasi also said that the chairman of PTI did not spend a penny on any development work in his three years and nine months rule.
Moreover, the list of the works accomplished by the PDM’s government was equally empty. “The PDM’s government didn’t take the decisions that should have been taken,” he said.
