Article 156 of the Constitution triggered the 13-member council’s reconstitution
ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi approved the restructuring of the National Economic Council (NEC), a constitutional body tasked with evaluating the nation’s economic situation and devising plans to promote fair development and regional equilibrium.
The president utilized Article 156 of the Constitution to reconstitute this 13-member council.

The prime minister will chair the NEC, and its membership will consist of the chief ministers of all four provinces, as well as representatives from the caretaker federal and provincial governments.
According to a statement from the President House press wing, caretaker Provincial Power Minister SM Tanvir will represent Punjab in the council, while caretaker Sindh Finance Minister Muhammad Yunus Dhagha will represent the province.
Additionally, council members will include caretaker Finance Minister Ahmed Rasool Bangash from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Amjad Rasheed, his counterpart from Balochistan.
Federal ministers for planning, communication, railway, maritime affairs, power, and petroleum will also hold positions within the NEC.
Interim PM Kakar Calls Off Kenya Visit
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office had scheduled Prime Minister Karar to visit Nairobi, Kenya, from September 4 to 6. He was set to attend the Africa Climate Summit at the invitation of President William Samoei Ruto.
However, the prime minister canceled the visit after assessing the countryโs situation and considering the pros and cons, as reported by the publication.
This would have marked Kakarโs first foreign visit since assuming office as Pakistanโs caretaker prime minister. The visit would have been accompanied by Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani, caretaker cabinet members, advisers, and special assistants.
