ISLAMABAD: The Attock jail will host the hearing of the cypher case against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief tomorrow.
According to the details, the law ministry issued a notification granting permission for the cypher case hearing against the former prime minister to take place in Attock jail.
The case in question, involving the PTI chairman, will be presided over by Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain within Attock jail.
In a development earlier today, a special court in Islamabad instructed Attock Jail authorities, where the former premier is detained, to keep the PTI chairman in judicial lockup due to the cypher case.
This decision was made shortly after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended the three-year sentence of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case.
Addressed to the superintendent of Attock jail, the special court’s letter directed the authorities to produce Imran Khan on August 30 for his involvement in the cypher case.
However, the letter stated, “Accused Imran Khan Niazi, son of Ikramullah Khan Niazi, residing in Zaman Park, Lahore, is hereby ordered for judicial remand in the case mentioned above, as he is already detained in district jail, Attock.”
Notably, Azam Khan, former principal secretary to the PTI chairman and ex-prime minister made startling revelations by claiming that the former PM utilized a US cypher for “political gains” and to prevent a no-confidence motion against him.
Azam Khan, previously missing for months, resurfaced and made these revelations regarding the US cypher while providing his statement under CrPC 164 before a magistrate.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi’s One-Day Physical Remand Approved In Cypher Case
The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has granted a one-day physical remand for PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in relation to the cypher misplacement case. The court has directed the investigating officer to present Shah Mahmood Qureshi again tomorrow for further proceedings.
The FIR against Qureshi was filed under the recently enacted Official Secrets Act. The magistrate conducted an in-camera hearing of the case, with only relevant lawyers present.
Previously, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had requested a 14-day physical remand for Qureshi, and the court had reserved its decision. Before appearing in court, Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with former PTI leader Shireen Mazari.
The FIR, registered on August 15, implicated PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the alleged misplacement of a diplomatic cable from the US. The charges were brought under sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act 1923, in conjunction with Section 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The FIR was initiated following an application by Interior Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar.
