The all-women summer speedrunning event, Flame Fatales, concluded on August 20 after an exhilarating week featuring runs of over 60 games. Organized by GDQโs Frame Fatales community, Flame Fatales, alongside its winter counterpart Frost Fatales, managed to raise an impressive sum of over $110,835 in support of the Malala Fund.
The Malala Fund, a nonprofit organization is working to ensure that girls worldwide have access to free, secure, and quality education. This year’s event showcased a diverse range of games, such as Stardew Valley, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Final Fantasy X, Octopath Traveler II, Pokรฉmon Scarlet/Violet, a three-player run of PlateUp!, and Resident Evil Village.
Fans have the opportunity to watch recordings of all the runs on the official YouTube channel of Games Done Quick.

Flame Fatales serves as a celebration of women and nonbinary gamers within the speedrunning community, while also providing a platform to raise funds for an important cause. The Malala Fund’s mission is to eliminate barriers to education for girls, irrespective of their gender, race, or socioeconomic background.
The remarkable success of Flame Fatales 2023 underscores the unifying potential of gaming, as the event not only exceeded previous fundraising efforts but also promoted awareness about the vital significance of education for girls.
