A British nurse, Lucy Letby, has been convicted of murdering seven newborn babies and attempting to murder six others at the hospital’s neonatal unit where she worked. This makes her the most prolific child killer in modern UK history. Authorities arrested Lucy after the unusual death of children in the hospital. It has been discovered that she employed various methods to kill the infants.
The deaths occurred at the Countess of Chester Hospital‘s neonatal unit in England between June 2015 and June 2016. Lucy Letby, aged 33, was accused of employing various methods to harm her young victims, who were either sick or born prematurely. These methods included injecting air, overfeeding with milk, and poisoning with insulin.

The jury at Manchester Crown Court reached the verdict after 22 days of deliberation. Letby had been on trial since October and had consistently denied harming the infants.
Prosecutors described Letby as a “calculating” individual who used methods that left little evidence behind. Her colleagues had raised concerns after noticing that Letby was on duty during each baby’s collapse.
Letby’s final victims were two triplet boys, referred to as babies O and P in court. The court heard that Letby was “completely out of control” by that time. She attempted to kill the third triplet, child Q, although the jury was unable to reach a verdict on that charge.
The case echoes the notorious medical murderers in Britain’s history, such as doctor Harold Shipman and nurse Beverley Allitt. Shipman was found guilty of murdering 15 patients through lethal morphine injections. A public inquiry concluded he might have killed around 250 patients. Allitt, who was dubbed the “angel of death,” received a life sentence in 1993 for murdering children under her care and causing harm to others.
