At least 3 killed, 7 wounded in blast at a hotel in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD: A blast ripped through a hotel in southeastern Afghanistan’s Khost province, causing the deaths of at least three people and injuring seven, as reported by the province’s media office.

The entity responsible for the blast remains unidentified at present.

Afghanistan’s Taliban administration has been conducting raids against members of the Islamic State, which has asserted accountability for several significant attacks in urban areas during recent months.

Furthermore, last June, a mosque in Afghanistan’s Badakhshan province worse by a blast during funeral prayers for the province’s former deputy governor.

According to local sources, the explosion, which occurred in the Hesa-e-Awal area of Faizabad at the Nabawi mosque, resulted in approximately 50 fatalities and left 25 others injured.

However, eyewitnesses disclosed that a suicide bomber directly targeted the congregation, triggering the explosion. Among those who lost their lives was Mulvi Saifullah Samim, the former police chief of Baghlan province.

Local residents estimated the death toll to be around 50 people, including senior officials and Samim, the former police chief. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to Faizabad Hospital for urgent medical treatment. A local resident alleged that a suicide bomber carried out the explosion.

The Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) took responsibility for the attack and declared it a retaliatory action for an operation in Kunar province.

ISKP has also focused on targeting officials within the Taliban administration, including claiming the assassination of the governor of northern Balkh province through an assault on his office in March.
