ISLAMABAD: The scheduled farewell guard of honor for Shehbaz, originally planned for Sunday, has been postponed until August 14.
Outgoing premier Shehbaz Sharif is expected to address the nation on Sunday night. During this address, he is anticipated to discuss the decisions made during the tenure of the ruling alliance.
In the meantime, the nominated caretaker prime minister, Anwaarul Haq Kakar, is set to take the oath of office on the afternoon of August 14.
On Saturday, President Arif Alvi endorsed a summary for the appointment of Anwaarul Haq Kakar as Pakistan’s caretaker prime minister. This decision followed an agreement between the outgoing premier and the leader of the opposition on Kakar’s nomination, marking the conclusion of the three-day consultation period.
The coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif came into power after the removal of the then-prime minister Imran Khan through a vote of no-confidence.
Throughout its term, the previous government consistently attributed economic challenges to its predecessor. Many of its leaders accused the PTI government of disregarding agreements by introducing a fuel subsidy, which was in contrast to the commitments made by the International Monetary Fund.
Shehbaz Sharif extended congratulations to interim PM
In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended congratulations to Kakar for his appointment as caretaker PM and expressed confidence in his ability to ensure the conduct of free, fair, and impartial elections in the country.
The prime minister remarked that the trust placed in Kakar’s name by all parties “validated their wise choice,” as the prospective caretaker PM was an “educated individual and patriot.”
He noted that, following a constitutional process, they had collectively agreed on the selection of a suitable candidate and conveyed his gratitude to the former leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Raja Riaz, for facilitating consultations in this regard.
During the preceding 16 months, their efforts had been focused on achieving economic stability for the country, with the prime minister expressing optimism for the continuation of this trajectory.
Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that “ensuring progress, prosperity, and economic stability were essential for the advancement and growth of the nation.”
He also offered prayers for the success of his successor in the caretaker role and the upcoming caretaker administration.
