SC to Declare Verdict on Review of Judgements Bill on Friday

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court had reserved the verdict on 19th June

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan is set to unveil its reserved decision concerning the Review of Judgements Bill on Friday (tomorrow).

On June 19, a three-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, and Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan, reserved the verdict following Attorney General Mansoor Awan’s completion of arguments.

The assembly passed the review bill while the country’s top court was addressing the Punjab election delay case.

The lawyer representing the Election Commission of Pakistan contended that, with the passage of the new bill, the three-member bench cannot preside over the case involving the election delay. They asserted the need to refer it to a larger bench.

After the government enacted legislation to curtail the powers of the chief justice of Pakistan, it swiftly approved the bill.Nevertheless, the top court halted the implementation of that bill.

The review bill specifically intends to grant petitioners the right of appeal in cases where the court has taken suo motu notice.
