The situation surrounding the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan has become a matter of concern for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi has raised several questions. He has also expressed worries about the safety and well-being of Imran Khan. In response to the situation, Qureshi has called on the superior courts to take notice of Imran Khan’s arrest and ensure justice is served.
Qureshi claimed that party members and lawyers were not allowed access to Imran Khan. He said it prevented them from obtaining the necessary signatures for an appeal. Additionally, he mentioned that medical boards were set up in hospitals, but Imran was taken to Attock Jail instead.
He further stated that Imran Khan is being kept in a ‘C’ class jail. He commented that the food being brought to him is suspicious, raising doubts about his safety. However, other sources suggest he is in a ‘B’ class jail.
Judge Who Sentenced Imran Khan Travels To The UK For Judicial Training
Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Humayun Dilawar, who sentenced PTI chief Imran Khan to three years in prison, has flown to the United Kingdom (UK) for ‘Judicial Training on Human Rights and the Rule of Law’.
The training is funded by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London. It is arranged by the University of Hull, UK, and will take place from August 5 to August 13. Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq nominated him for the training.
Before departing, Dilawar heard the Toshakhana criminal case and issued a jail sentence to Imran Khan. The sentence was for “corrupt practices” related to false statements about assets acquired from Toshakhana during 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. The court found Khan guilty of dishonesty and intentionally concealing benefits obtained from the national exchequer.
