Punjab president says final date will be announced after consultation with PDM
ISLAMABAD: Rana Farooq Saeed, the Punjab President of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) disclosed the party’s desire to dissolve the National Assembly on August 8. He mentioned that the final date for dissolution would be announced following consultations with the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
Rana Farooq Saeed, along with the central and south Punjab leaders of PPP, addressed a news conference.
He stated, “The party advocates for holding elections in November and emphasizes that all registered parties should be allowed to participate in the polls.”
The PPP’s stance is in favor of free and fair elections, where any party facing accusations should clear their name before participating.
Saeed mentioned that the PPP refused to engage in undemocratic practices. In contrast, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) allegedly sought to dismantle its main rival, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. He expressed the importance of opposing such mentalities. Allowing such practices could set a precedent for future political parties to treat their rivals in a similar manner when in power.

Regarding Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah’s statement about the PML-N’s expected performance in the upcoming elections. Rana Farooq Saeed of the PPP asserted that his party would offer strong competition to them. He emphasized that the entire province of Punjab does not solely belong to the PML-N. Saeed stressed the importance of the interim setup conducting fair polls to avoid any criticism.
The PPP leader reaffirmed their commitment to contesting elections on every seat in Punjab, with the party securing the most seats expected to form the provincial government. He also remarked that the PPP would be ready to form alliances with other parties. He highlighted the importance of reconciliation, with Zardari being known for his expertise in this area.
Saeed asserted that the PPP’s decisions and actions would always prioritize the well-being of Pakistan. He mentioned that the upcoming polls would be based on the old census. He advocated for the opposition’s consultation in the selection of the caretaker prime minister.
During the event, PPP leader Abdul Qadir Shaheen predicted that members from Central Punjab of other parties would join the PPP in the coming days. He emphasized that the PPP’s approach does not seek retribution against anyone.
