ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal presided over a meeting of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP).
He approved 10 development projects amounting to Rs1,073.41 billion. Among these projects, the CDWP approved three projects worth Rs 9.41 billion.
Other seven projects totaling Rs1,064 billion were recommended for consideration by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec), according to an official statement.
Various officials attended the meeting including Planning Ministry Secretary Syed Zafar Ali Shah, additional secretary, senior joint economist, Planning Commission members, and representatives from different ministries and divisions.
The projects discussed during the meeting spanned multiple sectors, including agriculture and food, education, transport and communications, and water resources.
One of the notable projects discussed was the ‘Prime Minister’s National Programme for Socialisation of Agriculture Tube Wells,’. The CDWP recommends it to Ecnec with a carry cost of Rs377,236.275 million.
Additionally, the CDWP approved a project titled ‘Establishment of Federal Government College of Home Economics Management Sciences and Specialized Discipline, F-11/1 Islamabad,’ valued at Rs2,637.769 million.
Furthermore, the CDWP approved the ‘Establishment of Women Sub-Campus, University of Swat, Charbagh Swat, KPK’ project. It amounts to Rs1,360.266 million. In the transport and communications sector, five projects were presented, including the ‘Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop Construction of Road from Raiwind Road up to Multan’ project, valued at Rs17,785.8250 million, which has been recommended to Ecnec for further consideration.

The CDWP has also sent the significant project, ‘Punjab Arterial Roads Improvement Programme,’ worth Rs188,965.060 million, to Ecnec for review. The CDWP approved the ‘Construction of Yariq โ Tank Road’ project, stretching over 35km and costing Rs5,414.450 million. Additionally, the recommendation to Ecnen includes the ‘Construction of Hyderabad โ Sukkur 306km, Six-Lane Divided Fenced Motorway on Built Operate Transfer’ project, with a value of Rs308,194 million.
The CDWP also forwarded the ‘Construction of KhawazaKhel โ Besham Expressway’ project, spanning 48km and costing Rs79,130.878 million, to Ecnec. The Ministry of Water Resources presented two projects: ‘Garuk Storage Dam District Kharan,’ amounting to Rs27,553.186 million. The value of the second project, ‘Remodeling of Pat Feeder Canal System,’ is Rs61,793.367 million. The CDWP recommended both projects to Ecnec for consideration.
The approval of these projects reflects the government’s commitment to fostering development across various sectors and regions of the country. It aims to enhance economic growth, infrastructure, education, and water resource management.
