Data indicates a Decline in user activity, fading Popularity of the Threads

ISLAMABAD: Despite Thread’s initial success with 100 million downloads within the first five days of its launch, data indicates a substantial decrease in user engagement on Threads.

Based on data from analytics firm Similar Web, Threads witnessed a surge in its daily active user count worldwide. It is reaching over 49 million on July 7, soon after its launch. However, within a week, by July 14, the number of daily active users had declined by almost half, at 23.6 million.

In the United States, the level of user engagement with the Threads app also experiences a decline. On July 7, the peak usage duration reached 21 minutes, but by July 14, it had drops significantly to just 6 minutes.

Interestingly, during the first two days of Threads’ availability, web traffic to twitter.com experiences a 5% decrease compared to the previous week. Although there was a recovery in Twitter’s traffic in the most recent 7-day period. It remains 11% lower compare to last year.

Threads have encountered its own set of challenges, including the need to implement reading limits due to an increase in spam attacks.

Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Meta-own Instagram, which oversees Threads. Encourage users to provide feedback if these limits disrupt their experience, suggesting that potential workarounds are being explored to combat bots.

The initial success of Threads can be attributed to its close association with Instagram. Making it easy for users to set up accounts and create communities.
