Covid-19 cannot be eradicated completely this year: WHO

“It would be a mistake to rely solely on vaccines to avoid coronavirus,” said DG WHO.

On Tuesday, the World Health Organization said it is not likely for coronavirus to be completely eradicated by the end of this year. However, the vaccination against it will help stats get lower.

WHO Health Emergencies Programme Executive Director Dr Mike Ryan said adhering to the standard operating Procedures (SOPs) can help reduce hospital admissions and death rate to some extent, adding that the world has seen a surge this week after months of decline.

The WHO suggested that currently the virus is under control.

The WHO Director-General Tedros Adanom Gabrius said Cases are on the rise in the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, and the Eastern Mediterranean.

Gabrius warned that it would be a mistake to completely rely on a coronavirus vaccine. This situation must be disappointing, but it is not surprising.

“It would be a mistake to rely solely on vaccines to avoid coronavirus,” he said, adding that public health measures are the basis for an effective response to the ongoing pandemic.
