PTI Terminates Pervez Khattak for Influencing Workers to Quit Party

ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) terminates Pervez Khattak, the former president of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), from the party due to his failure to address a “show cause notice” that was issued to him.

PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan sent Khattak a letter informing him of the termination of his membership, and the letter was also posted on PTI’s Twitter account.

Omar Ayub informed Pervez Khattak, the former defense minister that he had been served with a “show cause notice” on June 21. The notice require Khattak to provide a satisfactory response within a specified timeframe regarding allegations of contacting party members and encouraging them to leave the party. Since Khattak failed to provide a satisfactory reply within the given time, the letter stated that his membership in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was terminated immediately.

Pervez-Khattak

The show cause notice was issued last month to Khattak, who was accused of inciting members to leave the party. The notice asked Khattak to explain his actions within seven days. It warned that if his response was unsatisfactory or if he did not reply, further action would be taken according to the party’s policies and rules.

Khattak, who previously held positions such as the party’s secretary general and chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, had already announced his resignation from the position of PTI KP president. Many politicians, including Fawad Chaudhry, Ali Zaidi, and Mahmood Baqi Maulvi, have left the PTI and bid farewell to politics during the ongoing exodus from the party. Some of these former PTI members have joined the newly-formed Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by Jahangir Tareen, while others are exploring alternative options or distancing themselves from the party after the events of May 9.
