In a recent development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has lifted its previous injunction on the election of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. This decision now allows the government to proceed with the elections for this esteemed position.
Justice Anwaar Hussain presided over the hearing and considered all arguments before delivering the decision on the petition for a stay order against the PCB chairman elections.
Following that, the Lahore High Court forwarded the consolidated petitions to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Umar Ata Bandial.
Last week, the LHC suspended the notification of the Board of Governors, thereby halting the election process for the chairman.
The court also issued notices to the federal government, the PCB election commissioner and other relevant parties involved.
Malik Zulifqar’s petition highlighted that Chief Election Commissioner Shahzad Farooq Rana had made unauthorized changes to the list of the Board of Governors (BoGs), which had been finalized by the interim management committee on June 20.
The petition claimed that the chief election commissioner’s actions were in violation of the law.
The petitioner requested the court to issue a stay order in this matter, which was granted by the court.
It is important to note that the Balochistan High Court also halted the election of the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman until further notice.
Previously, the PCB had postponed the chairman elections following a stay order issued by a two-member bench of the Balochistan High Court.
Chief Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Amir Nawaz ordered the suspension of the elections until July 17.
Due to the Eid ul Adha holidays and the court’s two-week summer vacation, the court will resume hearing the arguments on July 17.
