Vehicles stranded as KP-Balochistan highway gets blocked after landslide

Vehicles stranded as KP-Balochistan highway gets blocked after landslide:

Torrential rains caused landslides at Dhana Sar and Manikhawa locations in Balochistan’s Sherani district, blocking the N-50 highway connecting Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan on Sunday.

The blockage left numerous vehicles stranded, including a large number of passenger buses and smaller vehicles.

The Director General of Balochistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Naseer Khan Nasir, reported that landslides at the above-mentioned locations had completely closed off the National Highway connecting KP’s Dera Ismail Khan and Balochistan’s Zhob.

He added that floods had occurred in Balochistan and bordering areas of KP due to recent torrential rains in KP’s bordering mountains and the Koh-i-Sulaiman range.

According to the PDMA DG:

The administration stopped passenger buses coming from Islamabad, Peshawar, and Swat, while it stopped those going from Balochistan to KP at Zhob and Sherani.

He added that “heavy machinery and teams” had arrived at the location to remove the rubble and assist in rescue efforts. Sherani Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar stated that efforts were underway to restore traffic on the highway with the aid of heavy machinery, but it could take 18-20 hours to clear the road.

Heavy Rainfall-Floods-Landslide

On March 30, heavy rainfall impacted the N-50 highway, resulting in the stranding of many coaches and other vehicles at various locations.

The temporary bridge on the Bolan River has washed away in a flash flood, resulting in the suspension of traffic between Balochistan and Sindh.

One fatality in Gwadar resulted from lightning during this incident.

Quetta and its surrounding areas experienced a new spell of heavy rain, which began on March 28 and persisted the following day.

Parts of the provincial capital got submerged due to the downpour.

Which resulted in rainwater entering settlements, particularly in slums.

Additionally, a swollen stream posed a threat to human settlements on the outskirts of the city.

The people in these areas had already suffered from devastating monsoon floods last year and could face a similar situation if the new spell of rain persisted.
