A 27-year-old man with a history of violence is charged with threatening to kill President Joe Biden after he made several phone calls to the White House, officials announced.
According to an unsealed federal criminal complaint, the man named David K. Reeves from Gastonia, North Carolina had been making threats from late January till early February, declared his intentions in one call to the White House.
“I’m going to come to kill the president, I’m going to kill the Secret Service because I own this whole planet.”
Reeves said in a phone call to a Secret Service special agent.
In his subsequent phone calls, he taunted the agents, while claiming his right to freedom of speech and said that he would continue to make them.
According to the affidavit, Reeves also threatened to kill members of Congress. In another similar incident, he ordered the Secret Service “to come to pick him up, and take him to the White House so he can punch the President in the face, sit in his chair, and stay there until he dies.”
On Thursday morning, Reeves made his initial appearance in federal court in Charlotte and was officially charged with Threatening the President of the United States.
In case of conviction, he faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. His public records show that Reeves has a long list of past criminal charges involving violence.
Reeves is the second Charlotte-area defendant making threats to Biden’s life. Last year, in October, federal court documents alleged that Alexander Treisman, a heavily armed wanderer traveling the country in a van, had mused online of killing Biden.
