At least three people were killed and five others were injured when a gunman opened fire on Michigan State University’s(MSU) main campus in East Lansing, police said.
Few details about the shooting were immediately available. Chris Rozman, interim deputy head of the university police said shootings took place in two locations: Berkey Hall, an academic building, and the Michigan State University Union.
At a televised late-night briefing about three hours after the incident, Rozman informed reporters that victims had been discovered from both sites by the responding police to the gunfire, which had started just after 8 p.m. Eastern time.

MSU police tweeted an update reporting that at least three more people had died. He confirmed that at least five victims had been taken to the hospital. Moreover, some of the victims had life-threatening injuries.
Several university buildings had been vacated and secured by police while authorities scoured the campus in search of possible further victims and a single suspect, MSU police said.
Authorities advised people in East Lansing to “shelter in place” as the manhunt went on. This includes students, professors, and residents of the nearby off-campus neighborhoods. , which is roughly 90 miles northwest of Detroit,
The suspect was initially described as a short male wearing a mask. He was last seen running away from MSU Union building on foot.

MSU is a significant public university with 50,000 graduate and undergraduate students on its main campus in East Lansing. Monday night, university police announced that all classes and campus events will be postponed for the following 48 hours.
This incident occurred around 14 months after a fatal mass shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County, Michigan. In that incident, a 15-year-old student used a semi-automatic weapon to start firing. That deadliest shooting resulted in the deaths of four classmates, six additional students, and a teacher.
