While blaming predecessors of current financial czar Ishaq Dar, including one from the PML-N, for the current economic woes, N’s Suleman Shahbaz, the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, suggested that a schism within the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was growing.
In a message posted on the social media platform Twitter on Monday, Suleman Shahbaz referred to Pakistan’s three previous finance ministers as “jokers” who had created a minefield in the country’s economy for their successors.
He mentioned Miftah Ismael, Shaukat Tareen, Hammad Azhar, and Abdul Hafeez Shaikh.
It is worth noting that Hammad Azhar only held the finance portfolio for one month.
Shahbaz did not mention him, but it is believed that Ismael, a federal finance minister and PML-N leader during the first few months after PM Shehbaz Sharif took control of the federal cabinet, was also on his target list.
It’s also worth noting that when Imran Khan took over, he made no disparaging remarks about Asad Umar, a senior PTI leader, and the party’s first finance minister.
Suleman Shahbaz went on to praise Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for his efforts.
“Dar sb averted a default after the atomic detonations in 1998,” he said, reinforcing his faith in Dar to prevent default and defend Pakistan.
Dar overcame enormous challenges, according to the PM’s son, but the finance minister has given it his all with unrivalled dedication and impeccable work.
