Pakistan To Strengthen Collaboration With ADB For Post-Flood Rehabilitation

Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Vice President of the Asia Development Bank (ADB), Mr. Shixin Chen, spoke on the phone on Wednesday and agreed to step up their collaboration to expedite Pakistan’s flood-reconstruction efforts in 2022.

The monsoon rains and floods, which raged across the country and killed 1,500 people, displaced over 20 million people.

The ADB vice president expressed his support and solidarity with the Pakistani people, both those who died and those who are attempting to make amends.

Both officials aimed to make Pakistan a powerful, climate-resilient nation.

The natural disaster killed approximately 1.5 million livestock (goats, sheep, cows, buffaloes, etc.), threatening the nation’s food security.

Furthermore, 8,300 square kilometres (roughly 3 million acres) of agricultural land was submerged, resulting in a 20% decrease in agricultural production this year.
