Netflix To Officially End Password Sharing At The Start Of 2023

Netflix has announced that it will discontinue its password-sharing feature sometime after the clock strikes midnight on December 31.

Netflix password sharing will come to an end in 2023. As a streaming service, Netflix has had a turbulent year.

Netflix announced a significant loss in subscribers not long after the first fiscal quarter of 2022 came to a close.

Since then, Netflix has experimented with a variety of different subscriber-growth strategies, one of which was the launch of a lower-tiered, ad-supported subscription tier in November of last year.

Another suggestion made was to limit password sharing among users, which may now be becoming more popular.

In 2023, Netflix says it will stop password sharing, so the dreaded practise is finally about to end.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Netflix intends to put in place systems that will charge customers for sharing their passwords with devices that aren’t inside their homes.

This system, which prompts users to enter a validation code on screen after signing in and expires after 15 minutes, is already being tested by Netflix in Latin American countries’ versions of the service.

The streaming service will also give the primary account holder a code that other users must enter in order to access their account.

This code changes every month.

It will make it difficult for people who use a bill-paying account without their knowledge.

It is unclear what Netflix will do in the new year to find people who share accounts, but the platform already collects data.

Data such as device locations and account activity will presumably be used to identify shared accounts.
