Musk’s new poll: Should I stay or go as Twitter CEO?

After admitting he made a mistake when he introduced new speech restrictions on Sunday that forbade mentions of competing social media platforms, Elon Musk is asking Twitter users to decide whether or not he should continue to run the social media platform.

It will be interesting to see how the poll results affect Musk’s role on the platform.

Twitter announced that users will no longer be able to link to Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, and other platforms the company described as “prohibited” in yet another significant policy change.

However, the action drew such immediate criticism, including from previous supporters of Twitter’s new billionaire owner, that Musk vowed to refrain from making any further significant policy changes without first conducting an online survey of users.

My apologies. Won’t happen again,” Musk wrote in a tweet before starting a new 12-hour poll on whether or not he should leave his position as Twitter’s CEO. “I will follow this poll’s findings,”

After shutting down a Twitter account last week that was monitoring the flights of his private jet, Musk took the action to block competitors as his most recent attempt to stifle certain speech.

Popular websites like Facebook and Instagram were among the prohibited websites, along with upstart competitors Mastodon, Tribel, Nostr, Post, and the Truth Social platform run by former President Donald Trump.
