The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will make important announcements about Local Government (LG) elections to be held in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), and cantonment board today (Monday).
Another meeting is expected to be held on Tuesday to decide on LG elections in Islamabad, Sindh, and Baluchistan.
ECP has also summoned all election commissioners, LG secretaries, military land director and the home secretary.
ECP met once on January 6, 2021, in continuation to which another meeting was held on January 21, to discuss the holding of local government elections in Punjab and KP. In the last meeting, ECP asked Punjab to share dates for holding local body elections within 15 days.
ECP had directed the provincial government to share with it the names of villages and neighborhood councils by January 10, 2021.
Earlier, the electoral body had expressed its concerns over the lack of seriousness of Punjab government about organizing LG polls. It also rejected the excuse of the pandemic situation for delaying the elections.
