Pakistan makes three changes as England opts to bat

England won the toss and chose to bat first in the second Test match between England and Pakistan in Multan

Mystery spinner Abrar was named in the XI by Pakistan captain Babar Azam, making him the 252nd player from that country to play Test cricket at the toss for the second of the three Tests against England at the Multan Cricket Stadium

Abrar was given his first call-up to the Test squad prior to this series after a stellar performance in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022–2023.

The 24-year-old right-arm spinner led the field in wickets taken with 43 in seven games, all at an average of 21.95, and was named the best bowler of the competition.

Overall, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, who has a sore shoulder from bowling, and Azhar Ali were replaced by Abrar, Faheem Ashraf, and Mohammad Nawaz from the Pakistani team that competed in the first Test at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

It should be noted that England won the toss and used their depth of batting to great advantage to win the first Test on Monday by 74 runs on a dead wicket that offered nothing to the bowlers.

With seven individual centuries and five fifty-pluses, Rawalpindi produced 1,768 runs in four innings, which is the third-highest total in Test history.

England won the three-match Test series.

Teams:

Pakistan: Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam (captain), Saud Shakeel, Mohammad Rizwan, Agha Salman, Mohammad Nawaz, Faheem Ashraf, Zahid Mahmood, Abrar Ahmed, Mohammad Ali

England: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Will Jacks, Ollie Robinson, Jack Leach, Mark Wood, James Anderson
