Major Shabbir Sharif’s 51st martyrdom anniversary being observed today

The nation observes the 51st anniversary of Major Shabbir Sharif’s martyrdom today (Tuesday). He is one of the outstanding army officers who fought in the decisive wars of 1965 and 1971.

Major Shabbir Sharif earned the Nishan-e-Haider award for his extraordinary bravery and fortitude in the fight for his beloved country, Pakistan.

A wreath-laying ceremony was underway in mausoleums in Lahore to pay tribute to one of the Pakistan Army’s most decorated officers’ as a mark of respect. While a guard of honour was also presented at the event to honour Major Shabbir’s sacrifice.

Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed’s family members and civil-military officials were present for the wreath-laying ceremony.

Major Shabbir Sharif’s battalion in the Frontier Force Regiment observes “Shabbir Day” annually with great reverence and gratitude.

In addition, he received the Sitara-e-Jurrat and the Sword of Honor from Kakul Academy in 1965.

Major Shabbir Sharif was born in Kunjah, Gujarat, in 1943, and was commissioned into the Pakistani Army’s Frontier Force Regiment in 1964.

On December 6, 1971, during the Indo-Pak War, Major Shabbir Sharif, a company commander, bravely defended high ground near Sulemanki Headworks against a company of the Assam Regiment, which was supported by a squadron of tanks.

His bravery and courageousness during the war earned him the Nishan-e-Haider, the highest military honour in Pakistan. In 1965, he also received the Sitara-e-Jurat award.
