235 girls, 165 boys enrolled in 15 schools

QUETTA: Fifteen government-run schools in the Pak-Afghan border town of Chaman got 400 out-of-school children registered. Among the enrolled students are children of both Afghan refugees and of the host community with a total of 235 girls and 165 boys. Among the total 163 were Afghan migrant children and 237 local.

These figures were shared by the Tameer-e-Khalq Foundation’s provincial-level advocacy meeting on Wednesday. Further the meeting reviewed the overall performance of the ongoing CONNECT Project in Chaman, where speakers noted child labor and out-of-school children in the Pak- Afghan border town as one of the serious problem.

The speakers highlighted that non-governmental groups as well as the education department have been providing full assistance for the children who are not attending school. In this regard, initiatives are underway for capacity building of teaching staff and improving the instructional materials
