Canada announces to shift visa centre back to Islamabad from Abu Dhabi

After a ten-year hiatus, Canada has decided to relocate its visa processing facility back to the Pakistani capital from Abu Dhabi.

According to a representative of the North American nation, the Canadian government has set aside a staggering sum in this regard.

Pakistan has long urged Canada to reconsider its decision to relocate its visa centre to the Gulf nation because applicants suffered as a result of the office’s relocation.

As other Western nations resumed the services due to the improved security situation in 2019, Pakistan’s then-high commissioner to Canada urged the Canadian government to relocate the visa processing centre back to its high commission in Islamabad.

He had stated that Canadian immigration officials would be able to verify the credentials of applications from Pakistan if the visa office reopened.

Around ten years ago, for security reasons, the Canadian government relocated its visa office from Islamabad to Abu Dhabi and the United Kingdom.

As a result of Pakistan’s success in removing militant groups from the country, several Western nations have moved their visa offices back to their embassies and high commissions in Islamabad.
