PM Shehbaz congratulates Malaysian newly-elected PM Anwar Ibrahim
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif felicitated Anwar Ibrahim who became the new Prime Minister of Malaysia on Thursday.
PM Shehbaz said that he extends his heartiest felicitations to His Excellency Anwar Ibrahim on taking the oath of office as the Prime Minister of Malaysia and offered his full support for further improvement in the two nations’ bilateral ties.
Premier said that he looks forward to working with Anwar Ibrahim to further strengthen longstanding fraternal ties between the two brotherly countries.
Malaysia’s perennial opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was sworn in as prime minister before the king in Kuala Lumpur Thursday, ending a five-day political impasse after inconclusive polls.
The ceremony at the National Palace closed the chapter on one of the most dramatic elections in Malaysia’s history after no party managed to secure a majority to form a government for the first time since independence in 1957.
Anwar’s ascension to the premiership caps a turbulent political life, which has not only propelled him into the corridors of power but also landed him inside a jail cell.
“I will not tolerate corruption and abuses … None should be marginalized under my administration,” Anwar told a news conference. He said his focus would be on the economy.
