Three newly-appointed SC judges take oath including Justice Athar Minallah

ISLAMABAD: Following their elevation from high courts to the top court, the three newly appointed Supreme Court (SC) judges took oath as Supreme Court judges on Friday.

Justice Shahid Waheed of the Lahore High Court, Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi of the Sindh High Court, and Justice Athar Minallah of the Islamabad High Court were sworn in by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Umar Ata Bandial.

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by SC judges, Bar Council representatives, senior lawyers, law officers, judicial officers, staff members, and the families of the three judges.

The apex court now has 15 judges after the oaths were taken. Two seats are still empty.

It should be noted that President Dr. Arif Alvi recently approved the appointment of the judges above to the SC.

IHC Chief Justice

In the meantime, on Friday, President Alvi swore Justice Aamer Farooq in as chief justice of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

Senior judges and government representatives were present for the oath-taking ceremony, which was held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The sixth Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court and senior-most judge on the IHC is Justice Aamer Farooq.
