Gaming: ‘Frightening’ VR headset kills you in real if you die in-game

A VR headset that kills you in real life if you die in a video game has been developed by the creator of the Oculus Rift.

Seriously though, it’s a legit concept.

It is sometimes suggested that perhaps humanity has advanced too far; with this new piece of gaming technology, that is most likely the case.

Palmer Luckey, a pioneer of virtual reality and the man behind Oculus, which is now more well-known for being a component of Facebook’s Meta, created a VR device that, if the player loses the game, actually kills them.

Luckey’s deadly headset, NerveGear, resembles a Meta Quest Pro that has three explosive charge modules mounted above the screen.

The charges are aimed at the user’s forebrain, and if they donate, the user’s skull will be completely destroyed.

Players start Sword Art Online, a new game based on the Japanese anime and book of the same name while wearing a NeveGear VR.

The players must struggle through a 100-floor dungeon in order to escape a crazed scientist’s virtual reality.

Because you cannot purchase the VR headset, try not to be overly thrilled or terrified.

Mark Zuckerberg’s transition to the metaverse was built on Oculus, which was sold by Luckey to Facebook in 2014 for $2 billion.
