Gigi Hadid quits Twitter, says it’s becoming a cesspool of hate under its new leadership

The Bridgerton producer Shonda Rhimes, artists Sara Bareilles and Toni Braxton, and the new CEO of Twitter Elon Musk have all left Twitter since he took control and fired staff. The most recent user to leave the network is supermodel Gigi Hadid, who declared she had deleted her Twitter account due to the “new leadership” in particular.

I canceled my Twitter account today, Hadid tweeted on Sunday in her Instagram stories. It has been a pit of hatred and prejudice for a long time, especially under its new leadership. I don’t want to be a part of that.

She continued by saying that although she has enjoyed communicating with her fans for almost ten years on Twitter, she “can’t say it’s a secure place for anyone, nor a social platform that will do more good than damage.”

Shannon Raj Singh, a former human rights attorney for Twitter, tweeted that Friday was her last day there because the company’s entire human rights team had been disconnected. Hadid shared MSNBC host Ayman Mohyeldin’s post on Singh.

Amer Heard, Musk’s ex-girlfriend, reportedly had her account disappear from the platform as soon as he acquired control of it, according to People Magazine. After controversy and legal issues, the CEO of Tesla finalized the $44 million acquisition of Twitter a week ago. The corporation would create a content moderation council with “widely different opinions,” he has recently declared.
