11 power projects completed under CPEC

Under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), 11 power projects with a combined capacity of 6,369 MW have been put into operation, and 10 further projects are in various stages of development.

According to data, coal dominates the energy mix of CPEC power projects with 8,220 MW, followed by hydropower (3,428 MW), solar energy (1,060 MW), and wind power (490 MW). The projects that have already been finished have a combined 1320 MW. China-HUB Sahiwal Coal Power, Port Qasim Power plants that use coal include the 660 MW Engro Thar Power and Mine, the 330 MW HUBCO Thar, the 720 MW Karot Hydropower, the 400 MW Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, the 100 MW UEP Wind Farm, the 99 MW Three Gorge Wind Power Projects, and the 50 MW each of the Sachal Wind Farm and Hydro China Dawood Wind.

The ongoing projects include the 1,320 MW Shanghai Electric (TCB-1) and Mine, the 330 MW ThalNova Thar Power, and the Azad 700.7 MW. The 600 MW Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, 300 MW Gwadar Coal/Solar Power Plant, 1,320 MW Thar (Oracle) Coal Plant, 1,124 MW Kohala Hydropower, 884 MW Suki Kinari Hydropower, 50 MW Cacho Wind Power, and Westren Energy Pvt Ltd.

While 1320 MW Shanghai Electric will start producing before the next summer, 330 MW ThalNova Thar Power Project will start producing by December. Six possible power projects, including the 260 MW Jameshill More Hydropower, 350 MW Toren More Hydropower, 135 MW Taunsa Hydropower, and 80 MW Phander Hydropower Projects, are anticipated to be included in the CPEC in the future.
