The Transgender Persons Act 2018 has been challenged at the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The Transgender Persons Act was contested by attorney Muddasir Chaudhry on the grounds that it violated Islamic beliefs.
The case has added the federal government and other parties involved as respondents.
According to the appeal, the law should be determined to be against Shariat because its regulations conflict with Pakistan’s actual circumstances.
It has been requested that the LHC invalidate the Transgender Persons Act.
It should be emphasised that the Transgender Persons Act is also being heard by the Federal Shariat Court. Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of Jamat-e-Islami made the motion (JI).
The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) (Amendment) Bill, 2022 was previously pronounced un-Islamic and in conflict with the Shariat by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII).
The country’s main religious organisation claimed in a statement that certain provisions of the Transgender Act 2018 are in conflict with Islamic teachings and may worsen the nation’s socioeconomic issues.
The CII requested that a committee study the transgender law from the federal government and discussed adding legal and religious experts to the committee.
