Whatsapp is ready to launch its Message editing feature

The edit message functionality for WhatsApp, a long-requested feature by users of the messaging service, is almost complete, thanks to developers at Meta.

We are now learning a little bit more about how this feature will ultimately function, albeit it is still not quite ready to go live.

The WhatsApp beta version 2.22.22.14 was examined by WABetaInfo to obtain a glimpse at how the final implementation will function. For instance, it appears that users will have up to 15 minutes after sharing a message to make changes.

When a message has been altered, a label indicating the change will appear beside the timestamp indicating when it was delivered.

We may need to wait for a later beta to learn more about how edits will sync between devices and what will happen if the recipient’s device is offline when the edit window is open.

Although this is a step forward, we still don’t have a lot of information regarding when WhatsApp will introduce message editing. Will there be any visible edit history, a la Twitter, when it does arrive? Could the implementation ultimately function more like the message editing tool in Slack? We’re eager to learn the results.
