ISLAMABAD: Saifullah Nyazee, a PTI senator, was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency in connection with a foreign funding investigation.
According to sources, the senator was detained for the illegal transfer of $625,000 to the Insaf Trust account in 2013.
According to officials who requested anonymity, the senator was detained outside his residence as he was heading to a Senate session.
On the arrest, the FIA has not yet released a comment. However, sources claimed that a probe into the senator was already ongoing since he had not provided a complete response regarding the transferred sum.
Additionally, they stated that the senator was arrested when the FIA discovered evidence against him.
Hamid Zaman, a founding member of PTI, was also taken into custody by the FIA from his office in the foreign funding investigation.
