SHC Orders to Ensure Complete Ban on Gutka Sales

Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered a complete ban on the sale of gutka and mainpuri throughout the state.

A petition asking the SHC to forbid the sale of gutka and mainpuri in the province was being heard.

Before the court, the trademark registrar presented his report. The SHC bench postponed further consideration of the matter until October 29 while ruling that the sale of gutka and Mainpuri be completely prohibited.

The Sindh High Court panel hearing the case against the Gutka and Manipuri businesses in the province was attended by the DIG Special Branch and the DIG from Hyderabad.

The SHC had directed the finalisation of the names of the police officers operating the businesses of the illegal goods and had commanded action against them during the previous hearing.

The SHC had further stated that information regarding the properties owned by police officers and higher-ranking members of the Sindh police who were involved in the sale of gutka and mawa should also be given to the court.

If necessary, the court further directed the Sindh Rangers to assist in the fight against the selling of gutka and mawa.
