According to information provided by the UN spokeswoman at a briefing in New York, the 10-day tour of the UN’s Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, which began on Wednesday, includes stops in Pakistan and three other Asian nations.
The actual dates of Jean-Pierre Lacroix’s visits have not been disclosed to the public, although he is anticipated to travel to India, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, and Japan between October 5 and 15.
During his visit to New Delhi, the Under-Secretary-General will take part in a two-day meeting hosted by the Challenges Forum to discuss important topics pertaining to peacekeeping operations. He will then fly to Abu Dhabi, Islamabad, and Tokyo.
The primary objective of Lacroix’s visit is to thank the countries for their contributions and support to UN peacekeeping as well as to provide an update on the progress made to increase the effectiveness of UN peacekeeping, including through the Secretary-Action General’s for Peacekeeping + initiative, according to a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Stรฉphane Dujarric.
Additionally, he stated that Lacroix would meet with senior government figures while visiting the four nations to discuss issues of vital relevance that might hasten the impact of UN operations.
It is important to note that Pakistan is one of the countries that provide the most troops to UN peacekeeping operations in regions of the world where there are ongoing conflicts.
The Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) spokesperson declared in May that UN missions would continue to be used to uphold peace around the world on the occasion of International Day of UN Peacekeepers.
He reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to helping the UN advance the universal objectives of harmony, stability, and collaboration.
The MOFA representative provided information that over 200,000 Pakistani peacekeepers had participated in 46 UN missions in conflict-affected areas since 1960.
