General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), met with high-ranking members of the Biden administration on Monday in Washington, according to The News.
On the first leg of his journey, the army chief met with UN representatives in New York after flying into the US on Friday.
The Pakistani government officials have been quiet about the visit, but sources told the publication that the army chief began holding meetings with important figures on Monday in Washington, DC.
According to officials who talked to the paper on the condition of anonymity, Gen. Bajwa will remain in the US for a few more days. Additionally, they described the trip as significant since it shows off the “strong relations” between the two nations.
Despite the fact that US-Pakistan relations are evolving, sources emphasised that the two countries defence and security ties remain solid.
The sources added that the army commander will meet with officials from the defence and security sectors during this trip, which has been postponed at least three times in the past year due to the long overdue visit by the army head to the US.
In 2019, General Bajwa made his most recent trip to the US.
