Senior lawyer Irfan Qadir appointed as special assistant to PM Shehbaz Sharif

Renowned lawyer and constitutional expert Irfan Qadir has been appointed the prime minister’s special assistant.

According to a notification, Irfan Qadir will have the same standing as a federal minister.

The federal cabinet currently has 74 members with his appointment, along with the addition of Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. 35 federal ministers, seven ministers of state, four advisers to the prime minister, and 28 SAPMs make up the current cabinet; however, Miftah Ismail continues to serve as a federal minister without a portfolio.

Prior to becoming a senior judge, Irfan Qadir also held the positions of prosecutor general for the NAB and attorney general of Pakistan. Irfan Qadir will start working in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tomorrow, according to reliable sources who spoke to The News (Friday).

The News reported that because of Qadir’s extraordinary legal expertise, the legal and prosecution sides of the government would be bolstered by his appointment.

According to the sources, Irfan Qadir’s entrance will worry several individuals, notably those from the deposed PTI government who have been charged with significant crimes but are eluding justice because there hasn’t been any action taken to hold them accountable.

Irfan Qadir is said to be able to lead the anti-corruption efforts of the FIA, NAB, and other pertinent agencies thanks to his extensive experience in dealing with legal issues and prosecution.

Qadir has expressed sorrow that several high PTI figures had eluded examination despite having strong evidence against them and being associated with severe offences. The sources also said that Qadir’s portfolio would be decided the day he takes office.
