Minister of State meets US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar

In her discussion with US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in Washington, DC, today, Minister of State Hina Rabbani Khar noted that the U.S. Congress can play a significant role in assisting vulnerable countries to deal with the climate crisis.

The Congresswoman was informed by the Minister of State of the severe destruction brought on by Pakistan’s floods as a result of climate change. She acknowledged the prompt aid previously given by the American government while stressing that further assistance from the US and the rest of the world will be needed to assist Pakistan in rebuilding better, greener, and more resiliently.

Despite being one of the countries with the lowest greenhouse gas emissions, Pakistan, according to her, is bearing the brunt of the effects of climate change.

She highlighted that because the climate problem was a global issue demanding a global solution and collaborative effort, the international community needed to fairly share the responsibility.

Congresswoman Omar expressed sorrow over the deaths and damage brought on by the severe flooding. She reaffirmed her support for giving Pakistan extra aid to help it recover from the devastating floods.

Both parties also emphasized the importance of ongoing participation in a variety of fields, such as agriculture and climate change.
