Professionals urge promotion of ecotourism

Promoting eco-tourism in the nation is crucial, according to experts, including decision-makers, federal and provincial government representatives, and the leaders of numerous tourism-related businesses, to help the industry recover from recent floods and heavy rains.

During the five sessions of the National Tourism Conference on Monday, policymakers, federal and provincial government representatives, and leaders of various tourism-related businesses discussed challenges and opportunities in the tourism sector.

They noted that hotel promotion was another crucial area to focus on while keeping in mind the safety of the environment and cultural heritage.

To commemorate World Tourism Day, the conference was held at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts with the theme “Rethinking Tourism” and was organized by Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) (PNCA).

Awn Chaudry, the adviser to the prime minister on tourism and sports, said during the opening session that tourism, as the foundation of the economy and one of the fastest growing global industries, is essential to socio-economic development in terms of attracting investment, foreign exchange earnings, and jobs.

He added, “As we celebrate International Tourism Day today with the theme “Rethinking Tourism,” let me use this opportunity to remind you all that improving infrastructure and promoting travel within the nation are key priorities for the government.

We must work together to protect and rescue our people during this difficult time when Pakistan is experiencing its worst natural disaster.
