Iranian Protestors set fire to Police stations as unrest over Amini’s death worsens

The turmoil sparked by the death of a woman being held by the Islamic Republic’s morality police grew for a sixth day on Thursday as protesters set fire to police stations and vehicles in Tehran and several other Iranian cities.

Mahsa Amini, 22, passed away last week after being detained by Tehran’s morality police for donning “unsuitable clothes.” When she was in jail, she had a coma.

The cause of the death will be looked into, according to the authorities.

The death of Amini sparked intense resentment among the populace and the worst protests in Iran since 2019.

Police have used force to disperse demonstrators, most of whom have been centered in Iran’s Kurdish-populated northern areas but have now extended to the nation’s capital and at least 50 other cities and towns.

A video that was shared on the Twitter account 1500tasvir, which focuses on Iran protests and has about 100,000 followers, shows protestors shouting “We will die, we will die but we’ll get Iran back” outside a police station that was set on fire.

Reuters was unable to confirm the footage.

As the disturbance from Amini’s home province of Kurdistan escalated, another police station was set on fire in Tehran.

Fury over topics such as freedoms in the Islamic Republic and an economy that is suffering due to sanctions has been released in Iran as a result of Amini’s passing.

Women have been active in the protests, waving and burning their veils, and some have even had their hair cut in the open.

As seen in a video that Reuters was unable to authenticate, crowds in northern Iran attacked two security forces personnel riding a motorcycle while brandishing batons and rocks.
